This past weekend my darling hubby and I had the pleasure of flying out west for three fun-filled days in Las Vegas!
We adore Vegas! We got married out there 5 years ago, and each trip we’ve made back feels like a celebration of us. The city itself seems to symbolize what we cherish most about our relationship, FUN! We love to have fun, to be spontaneous, to make new memories, and to live life to the fullest. And where better to do all of that then the greatest adult playground around? Good old Las Vegas!
I must say we’ve been spoiled. Each year the top in our company (and we happen to work for the same company), receive a trip to Vegas, free flight, a complimentary stay at Caesar’s Palace (a GORGEOUS hotel and casino in the heart of the strip), and $700 to play with for the weekend. Only requirement? That we attend an awards banquet on the final evening. Not too shabby huh?
Well this year, the year of our 5 year anniversary, we both won! So that’s two free plane tickets, and extra night at Caesar’s, and a whopping $1,700 to spend at our leisure! Let me tell you, Vegas is fun, but it’s a freaking BLAST when you don’t have to spend any of your own money!
Since we don’t gamble (okay okay, we do hit the penny slots here and there, but more for amusement purposes than for any real hope to win anything), we usually spend most of our time in Vegas sight seeing, which mean a lot of walking! I don’t mind this at all since this weekend away means a break from training, but we stay very active. From one end of the strip to the next we walk through all of the gorgeous hotels. I love admiring the Bellagio gardens, wandering through the streets of New York New York, perusing the storefronts of the Miracle Mile in Planet Hollywood, and of course, my favorite, spending time in the beautiful Venetian. We even walked all of the way to the Stratosphere to view the Vegas strip from almost 900 feet above the ground.
Not only did we sightsee, but we celebrated! We visited the chapel we got married at 5 years ago! We toasted at the Minus5 Ice Bar, a 15 degree ice cave where all furniture, glasses, and decor are sculpted of ice! And, my favorite part, we renewed our vows at the Pop Up Wedding Chapel! We exchanged brightly colored eraser rings, read hilarious vows, donned silly props for a photo booth shoot, and received tuxedo shirts and cake pops as our party favors while pedestrians watched from the crowded strip. SO FUN, so us.
We then danced the night away at Marquee Nightclub, a mind-blowing venue featuring mesmerizing music and light shows, cabanas complete with their own individual hot tubs, and an intoxicating atmosphere that left us feeling as though we were 21 again.
We are home and back to reality. We missed our boy, and are enjoying the return to normalcy. But I must say, a little bit of my heart is in Vegas, and I can’t wait till the hubs and I return for another great celebration.
Back to training hard, but I didn’t mind the break at all, because sometimes taking time away to enjoy life and just have fun is so necessary, and so very worth it. Night all!
